Downtown San Mateo Clean-up, Beautification, and Barbeque

San Mateo Adult School is a great community.

We have students from all over the world.

Students, staff, and teachers work together to help students learn English and reach their goals.

Together we make a circle to help each other.

Our circle is part of other, bigger circles.

We are part of a bigger community - the City of San Mateo.

This year, our school will join in the Downtown San Mateo Clean-up, Beautification and Barbeque on Saturday, April 12th from 8:30 to 12 noon.

Our community - day ESL students, evening ESL students, students from other programs, and SMAS staff - will join with other people in our San Mateo community to make Downtown San Mateo cleaner and more beautiful in the 2nd Annual Downtown Clean-up.

We will meet Saturday morning, April 12th,

- at the Adult School at 8:00 am and walk together

- or you can go directly on your own

to the Big White Tent by the 5th Street Entrance to Central Park.  The tent will be between the tennis courts and the baseball field.

The clean up begins at 8:30 am.

Everyone will sign a special form, receive a t-shirt, and divide into teams.  Then we will go to different parts of Downtown San Mateo to make things cleaner and more beautiful.

After we do this, we will return to Central Park for music and a barbeque sponsored by Scandinavian Designs and the Lions Club.

Have you been to Central Park?  It is very lovely.  It has tennis courts, a baseball field, a children's playground, a Japanese garden with a koi pond, a mini railroad, and an arboretum.

Central Park wants to become better.  You can learn more about that here.  You can get involved and help decide what to do.

Have you been to Downtown San Mateo?  It has many great shops and restaurants, an old-fashioned toy store, cafes, bakeries, a Caltrain station, a movie theater, and a big, wonderful public library.  San Mateo was voted Best Small Town for Food

The Squid Tree is on North B Street.  Now many people are discussing changes for this area.

The old Blu and White Laundry will become a new big Mi Rancho Market.  You can read more about these changes and how to get involved in how these changes here in English and here in Spanish.

Together we can make good things happen -

for ourselves, for our school, for our community, for the world.
