Happy Valentine's Day!

Today, February 14th, is Valentine's Day.

Like many holidays, it has a complicated history:

Nowadays, here in the U.S., it is all about love, especially romantic love.

On this day, if you love someone, you should give them a "valentine" - a card expressing your love for them, chocolate, roses, or jewelry. At least, the companies who sell these things think you should. (Smile!)

Children often celebrate Valentine's Day at school. They exchange valentines - homemade or storebought - and they eat lots of chocolate and candy.

The colors red and pink are associated with this holiday. You might notice many people wearing those colors today.

There are millions of songs about love, of course. In every language and every culture. In English, we have a special Valentine song - "My Funny Valentine." Many singers have sung it - Chet Baker, Etta James, Frank Sinatra, Chaka Khan, Anita Baker, Michael Buble. Here's Sting singing it to his wife, Trudi Styler. They have been married for twenty years.

Whether you have been married for twenty years, fifty years, or never... whether you have a sweetheart, no sweetheart, or a broken heart... may your Valentine's Day be a good one.

Feel the love!
