Learner to Earner: Gloria Gonzalez

As San Mateo Adult School Students gain knowledge, skills, and confidence, they join the work force, advance in their jobs, and engage in volunteer work.  The Learner to Earner page is about their success. Each week or so, another success story is feature.  Here's the sixth story in the series.

From Learner to Earner:  Gloria Gonzalez

 Gloria Gonzalez
Did you know Staff Assistant Gloria Gonzalez used to be a student here many years ago?   Gloria is an immigrant from Guatemala.   She studied English as a Second Language at our school and then went on to College of San Mateo.   You can find her at the front desk of the SMART Center in the afternoons and evenings.  She has worked here, helping students and staff, for twenty six years.  Because she is bilingual in English and Spanish, she can translate between the languages when needed.  She is a key member of the SMAS community because she has worked here for so many years, knows so much about who does what and how things work, is bilingual, and brings such a positive, helpful spirit to the school.  She also understands what it is like to be a student.  This gives her special skills and empathy.  Your experience as a student can make a powerful and positive difference in your future career.
You can learn more about Gloria and her story in this video.
