Counselors To Help You Reduce Stress and Achieve Goals

Learning a new language is not easy.

Living in a new country is not easy.

Living far from friends and family is not easy.

Dealing with loss and disappointment and change is not easy.

Dealing with job or health or family problems in not easy.

These things make stress.

Stress makes it hard to learn and remember things.

Stress makes it hard to solve problems.

Stress makes it hard to achieve goals.

When we have high stress for a long time, our brains are not able to learn new things well.

But!  Good news!   We can find ways to lower our stress.  We can find solutions to problems.

Counselors can help us do this.

And good news!  San Mateo Adult School now has counselors to help students lower stress, solve problems, and achieve goals.

Asst. Director
Susan Williams
Assistant Director Susan Williams worked to bring the counselors to our school.  They are from the YMCA Youth Service Bureau.

If you want to meet with a counselor, please get a referral form at the front desk in the SMART Center or ask your teacher for a form.

Both counselors have mailboxes in the SMART Center and Room 31.

Here is their schedule:

Tuesday Evening - 6 pm to 9 pm
     Althea Garcia, MFT
     650 - 877 - 8642, ext 87
     Room #29

Wednesday Day 10 am to 2 pm
 Erika Diaz, ASW

She is bilingual Spanish/English

650 - 877 - 8642, ext 63

Room # 29

Welcome, Althea and Erika, to San Mateo Adult School!

And thank you, Susan, for bringing them to us!

Counselors will help many students to feel better and achieve their goals for school and life.

Life is about change.  Change brings challenge.

But with the help with other people, we can overcome obstacles, reach goals, and have fun, too.
