Good News! Designated Funding Is On The Horizon

Dawn Koepke
CCAE Legislative Analyst
Good news from CCAE, the California Council of Adult Education:

Dawn Koepke, the Legislative Analyst or CCAE, says the Department of Finance understands Adult Schools need Designated Funding - our own money.  This is big news.  It is a big change.  And a good change.

This means when the Legislature makes their plan for the new budget this year or the next year or the next, Designated Funding for K12 Adult Schools might be in the new budget.

She says, "Designated funding is on the horizon."

What does that mean?

This means we can see it... far away... like a ship coming in from the sea.

What will bring that ship closer to us?

Our own effort.

Our effort will bring that ship to us.

We are the sailors on the ship, rowing it in to shore

And...

We are the people on the shore, waiting for the ship.

Our effort brings the help we are waiting for.

Dawn Koepke says

1.  We must keep telling the Legislature and the Governor and everyone that Adult Schools need Designated Funding.  We must make our case.  Show the evidence.  Explain things in a good, clear way:  Adult Schools help California.  Adult Schools need their own money to make them stable.  Adult Schools need Designated Funding.

2.  Adult Schools need to be strong partners in the new Regional Consortia.   Students are part of this. We need student experience, creativity, and wisdom.

3. We must tell our local Legislators about all this.  We must tell them what we are doing, how we help the people.  We must tell them what we are doing in the Regional Consortia.  We must tell them we need our own money, Designated Funding.

We can do all this.

We are doing all this!

When we wear our Red for Adult Ed on Tuesdays, we are doing this.

When we talk to friends and family and co-workers about Adult Schools, we are doing this.

When we make and take surveys about Adult Education for the new Regional Consortia, we are doing this.

When we contact the press, we are doing this.

When we contact our Legislators, we are doing this.

When we share ideas for more actions, we are doing this.

We are doing this!

We are bringing the ship to shore.

Our own effort is saving us.
