Tuesday, November 6th is a big election day.
American citizens will vote for many things, including who will be the President for the next four years.
They will decide between the current President, Barack Obama, and the former Governor of Massachusetts, Mitt Romney.
California voters will also make very big decisions about taxes and public education.
Propositions 30 and 38 are about paying extra taxes for public education.
Proposition 30 would make people who earn more than 250,000 in a one year pay more taxes - and - everyone in the state would pay 1/4 of a 1 cent more in sales tax. So if you bought something that cost four dollars, you would pay one penny more in sales tax. These taxes would not be permanent.
If Prop 30 does not pass, there will be "trigger cuts." That means instant cuts to education - like the trigger of a gun.
Proposition 38 would make everyone pay .4% more taxes and people who earn more 2.5 million a year pay 2.2% in taxes.
It is a little more complicated, of course.

The voters' choices will affect life here at the San Mateo Adult School and all public schools - children, college, university and adult school students - across California.
These are big choices so it is important that everyone who can vote thinks about things carefully and then votes.
It is okay to vote just on the things you understand. You do not have to vote on everything on the ballot.
