Tuesday, June 12th, 2012, at 10:30 am, there will be a press conference at the San Mateo Adult School.
What is a press conference?
A press conference is an event. You invite the press - radio, tv, print (newspapers and magazines), online journalists - to get information. You tell them things and they can ask questions.
Why are we having a press conference?
Because Adult Education is in trouble.
The State Legislature has cut and cut and cut and soon there will be no more Adult Education to cut.
Many people do not know this.
So we are inviting the press to come to our school and learn more about what is happening.
We will have speakers talk about what is happening:
Bob Harper - who used to work here - will talk about what is happening all over California and why and what we can do to make it better.
Mathew Kogan - from Los Angeles Adult School - will talk about what their school is doing to try to stop being closed down.
Ana Kurestsky - from Oakland Adult School - will talk about what happens when an adult school is shut down.
US Representative Jackie Speier - her mother used to teach at the Adult School. Rep. Speier used to be a State Senator in the California State Legislature. She is now a member of the United States Congress.
Students past and present - will talk about how the Adult School has helped them.
Please come.
Please tell your friends about this event.
