Good news!
The State Legislature passed a budget. WSF was NOT in the budget. That is good news for adult education!
But! We need to keep working.
Adult schools are still in trouble.
We still have "flex" - that means if K-12 schools need money, they can use adult education money.
And many K-12 schools need money because all schools in California are in trouble. They all need more money.
We need to stop "flex."
We need something called "a dedicated funding stream." That means a special budget for Adult Education.
Maybe the budget is small. Maybe it has to be small now because this a difficult economy. But we need our own budget.
Then, when the economy is stronger, we can rebuild.
So what do we need to do to make this happen?
What do YOU need to do?
Here is a "to-do list" to help you get started:
1. Be ready to send more emails and letters. You did great. We did great! Our letters and emails helped alot. We might need to send more. Be ready.
2. Visit the website for CCAE. CCAE is an organization that is about Adult Education. It is the California Council for Adult Education. If you have twenty dollars to spare, join. Twenty dollars is the cost for an Adult Education student or friend to join. This twenty dollars is important. CCAE is working hard to explain to the State Legislature what Adult Education does and why it is important to keep it going.
3. If you are a member of our community, look for us on Facebook. Look for us even if you are not a member! If you "like" us on Facebook, you can get more updates about what is happening in Adult Education and at our wonderful school.
4. If Adult Education - ESL, Citizenship, GED or High School Diploma, Job Training, Parent Ed, Fifty Plus (Older Adults) - has helped you, make a video telling how it helped you. Post the video on youtube and tag it with Adult Ed Matters. Visit. http://www.adulteducationmatters.com/ and submit your video. We are making a story bank of videos. Then, when someone asks, "Why does Adult Education matter?" we can show them! Watch these videos! And you will understand!
5. Feel good. We have done good work. And we will keep doing good work. We are strong. We are many, many people working together for something good. Feel good about this. Feel strong.
