From Learner to Earner: Qian Mei Zhang

As San Mateo Adult School Students gain knowledge, skills, and confidence, they join the work force, advance in their jobs, and engage in volunteer work.  The Learner to Earner page is about their success. Each week or so, another success story is feature.  Here's the fourth story in the series.

From Learner to Earner:  Qian Mei Zhang

Qian Mei came to America and to San Mateo Adult School in April 2015. As a Chinese native, she had worked as an IT consultant at a prestigious worldwide IT company Accenture in Japan. When she came to America to start a new chapter of her life, she left this job and felt that she needed to work on her English before she would be able to get a similar job in the US.

When she started attending the job search class at San Mateo Adult School, she prepared her Elevator Speech and resume and practiced job interviewing, which she says was one of the main reasons she was able to gain confidence and immediately put herself out in the job market. In June, Qian Mei was able to gain employment at Accenture, San Francisco through reaching out to her former supervisor in Japan and using the networking skills she learned in the class. Through these efforts, she was hired and will start her first day at work in July.

Qian Mei attributes her success to three things: attending and not missing the job search class, doing all the work and homework teachers suggested and attending job fairs and networking with employers.

Congratulations, Qian Mei!  We wish you the best!
