Gratitude for Success, Support, Community, and Country

The Wednesday before Thanksgiving is always a special day at San Mateo Adult School because students and staff celebrate the holiday together with food from around the world - and of course, wonderful people!

Today was extra special because it was also a celebration for Lian Fu.  He passed the citizenship test.  He is a citizen now!

Here is the beautiful letter shared in Teacher Betty's classroom to thank everyone and honor the day.

Teachers and Classmates:

This morning, we would like to hold a small celebration party -  our classmate Lian Fu just successfully passed his citizen's test! Let's have a round of applause to congratulate him!

New US Citizen Lian Fu
Lian Fu studied very hard to pass the citizenship test.  But his success, mine and my husband's will  not happen without the help our great teachers here in this classroom.  They spend so much effort and time in teaching us.  The old people like us forget faster than we can remember.  To help us understand and remember, Teacher Betty and teacher Alan find all kinds of innovative ways, patiently review with us over and over.  Here we would like to take this opportunity to especially thank them from our heart!
Teacher Betty

Every time we enter Betty's classroom, we feel like coming home to a warm family.  Here we want to thank you all for your supports!  Without your laugh and encouragement, we probably will not have the confidence to stick to the end of final success.  And let me tell you, if our old brain can make it, work hard and all can!

Today we are all here for one dream  --- the American dream of democracy, justice and freedom.  The U.S. is a beautiful country.  We want to thank her for the endless and kindness!   May our American dream forever alive and prosper!

This week is Thanksgiving week, like the early immigrants' gratitude to the Indians.  We are mindful and deeply grateful.

Wish teachers and everyone a very happy Thanksgiving!  Enjoy the food!
