Spring Break Forward

It is Spring Break at the San Mateo Adult School.

The school is closed for TWO WEEKS.

Classes begin again on Monday, April 8.

If you want some ideas for fun things to do during the break, you can click here.

Now how about that title?

Well, we know it's Spring Break.

Why is this Spring Break different?

Why is this one  Spring Break Forward?

What does that mean?

Break forward means to make a big jump forward.

For 5 years, Adult Education has had many problems.   Many cuts.  Many schools closed

Over 50 Adult Schools closed.

But now things are beginning to change.

More and more people are beginning to understand:  Adult Education Matters!

This is a very special time.

Gov. Brown has a plan for Adult Education.  It is good and bad.

The State Legislature will look at what is good and bad about the plan and make their own plan, too.

They will vote.  Maybe they will argue and vote again.

They must have a certain number of votes for the plan to become reality.  The deadline is July.

Now, at this time, we need to speak.

We need to let Gov. Brown and the State Legislature know:

*  Adult Education matters

* Adult Education needs a stable budget (this is called designated funding)

* Adult Education needs to stay where it is.  This is mostly in places like our school.   We are part of the San Mateo Union High School District.  This is how it is all over California.  Every K-12 district in California - in the desert, in the mountains, in the valleys, on the coast -  can have an Adult School.  This is good.

You can be part of this.

You can help make this Spring Break a Spring Break Forward.

Click on the link below and sign this petition:
Rebuild Adult Education - K-12 & Designated Funding Stream.

Tell your friends and your family and your co-workers and your neighbors about it.

Tell them Adult Education matters.

Thank the State Assembly Members who stood up for Adult Education last week and said:

* No! to Gov. Brown's plan to move Adult Education out of the K-12 programs like ours and
* Yes! to rebuilding Adult Education.

Send them a quick email.  Say, "Thank you for standing up for Adult Education!"

Together we can do this.

If we all lean forward, we can do this.

Some Springs are special.

This one is.

So all right then... everybody together now...

And Let's Spring Break Forward!
