Make A Plate!

In January, Gov. Brown will announce a new budget for the state of California.

The good news:   There is more money for education because Prop 30 passed.

The bad news:   When they hand out the money, Adult Ed might not get any.

This is because we don't have our own "plate" at the table.

We don't have our own special money that is just for us that we can plan with and use.

In the past, we did.

That changed in 2008.

Now, if they need to, school districts can use Adult Ed money for other things.

That is a big problem.

We need our own money.

We want to make sure Gov. Brown and the Legislators know that Adult Education Matters.

We need a plate at the table.

We need our own serving of money in the new budget.

We have a plan to help Gov. Brown and the Legislators understand that.

We are going to write on paper plates:

Adult Ed needs a seat at the table because...

You can write your own reason.

Maybe because Adult Ed helps you with English.

Maybe because Adult Ed helps your son get his GED.

Maybe because Adult Ed helps your sister get a job.

Maybe because Adult Ed helps you become a citizen.

This week and next week, teachers will students write messages on paper plates.

In January, we will deliver them to Gov. Brown and the State Legislature.

We want to make sure they understand:

Adult Education Matters!

We need a seat at the table!

We need our own money!
