Get The Word Out

What does "get the word out" mean? It means tell people the news about something.

Adult education - and all other forms of education in California - is in real trouble.

More and more cuts are making it harder and harder for both children and adults get the education they need.

Without good education, a state cannot be strong. Everyone suffers.

Governor Brown and teachers have come up with an idea that can help. They have made a new inititiave - The Protect Schools and Public Safety Initiative.

What is an initiative?

An initiative is an idea for a new law. People must collect signatures. If they have enough signatures, they can put the initiative on the ballot.

Then everyone votes. Do they want this idea for a new law?

If enough people vote yes, then the initiative becomes law.

You must be a citizen to sign the initiative.

Are you a citizen?

Do you have friends who are citizens?

Tell them about the trouble schools are in. All schools are in trouble. Adult schools are in the most trouble.

The initiative would make temporary taxes on the richest people in California and also add a 1/4 of 1% increase on sales tax.

It guarantees that a large amount of money will go to education.

You read all the details at http://protectschoolsandpublicsafety.org.

You can also ask ESL teachers for more information.

The Adult School will put out a table so that you can sign the initiative if you are a citizen and give you more information to share with citizens that you know.

Please know this is serious.

If don't do something, we are in real trouble.

All of us. Not just adult school students and teachers and staff.

All Californians.

If you are a citizen, please sign.

If you have friends, family, neighbors, co-workers who are citizens, please tell them about it.

If you know people who are "alums," please tell them also.

"Alums" are people who went to school here in the past.

Get the word out!
