Katherine Lieban, ESL teacher at San Mateo Adult School was selected as the Certificated Golden Apple recipient for March. This is what her colleagues had to say about her:
"Katherine has been an ESL teacher at the adult school for 30 years. She started at Low Beginning and has been teaching High Advanced ESL for several years. Katherine is an excellent teacher, beloved by her students and respected by her colleagues. She is retiring at the end of April, 2020, so this is a perfect time to acknowledge her incredible contribution to our ESL program and our school overall through the years. She challenges her students, and she also gets to know them.
They open up to her about their obstacles and their hopes. She is always eager to collaborate with colleagues, experiment with creative activities and she is often the person who offers a compromise or "other" idea when we are at a stalemate in a staff meeting. Katherine is a gifted teacher who cares, and we have been extremely fortunate to have her at the adult school for all these years. She always encourages students to be involved in the world, and often she will send students around the school with questions for staff, to help them understand the culture better. Her Halloween costume is always the most creative; we wait each year to see what metaphor she will be. Katherine is intelligent, kind and humble."
Congratulations Katherine.
